I prefer a method which not only holds the ear with sutures, also changes the direction of the cartilages in my cases. In this method, I perform it by removing the cartilage tissue from the area called concha of the ear, and by changing the direction of the cartilage forming the ear fold towards the back. Because cartilage of the ear is completely released, it gets rid of the pressure created by the skin. Thus, the resistance created by the elastic cartilage of the ear is removed, and the ear protects its own shape without any force. There is no permanent suture in the ear in any shape, completely absorbable sutures are used, and consequently problems created by that kind of suture in time are prevented.

By this means, the possibility of recurrence in other words repeating that may occur in the ear critically reduces. Because it is worked with an incision made from background of the ear in this surgery, it is not faced with any scar then. Pressure bandage is applied to the patient not to be bleeding.

Ear Lobe Reduction

Enlargement in the ear lobe may also come into question in some patients. This situation can be corrected with the ear lobe reduction surgery. Thus, it is also provided the ear to look smaller. The ear lobe reduction surgery is not a routine procedure performed in the prominent ear surgery, it is applied only in the conditions enlargement and sagginess.

After Prominent Ear Surgery

The pressure dressing to be applied in the patient is highly important. The ear is an organ which critically becomes bloodshot. Thus blood leaking between tissues after surgery will be prevented by the pressure to be applied. The ears can ache for a couple of days, but this complaint can be relieved by medications. By removing this bandage after 4-5 days, the ear will be bandaged by a lighter dressing. And after removing these dressings, tennis bandage is suggested to use especially in nights. Use of this bandage also during day will help better protection of shape of the ear.

The sutures usually dissolve by themselves, and disappear in a week. The ear will be oedematous (swollen) for about 7-10 days after surgery. It should be stayed away from any activity in which the ear will bend for about 1.5 month. Most of the adults can return their works within 5-7 days in average. The children can go to the school after about 7 days, but they should be careful in activities.

Why Don’t I Prefer Thread Otoplasty?

The patients want all applications to be simple. Of course at first appearance, ear correcting only with thread, without having surgery, and in more affordable price can be attractive. However, the most important point is that can the thread aesthetic give the proper ear shape in all patients? And do the results be permanent and smooth? At this point, many problems are lived.

While the biggest risk in prominent ear surgeries is the recurrence (repeating) problem, this situation occurs so much more in those performed with thread. In other words, becoming of the ear to its previous state is a possible situation. As well as the persistence of permanent sutures behind the ear can appear from the skin, they also disturb the patient by being handled. When there is a clear angle difference between the ear and head, trying of the thread to get the ear closer to the head by force does not give result, and also may cause deformation in cartilages of the ear.
