One of the problems of interest to women is being invaginated of the nipple. This situation can create a big problem aesthetically, functionally and psychologically. The patient can be displeased for her breast appearance; this may cause psychological non-confidence in her, and the situation of inability of breastfeeding her baby may emerge because of the submerged nipple in the course of breastfeeding.
As well as the nipple inversion may be from birth (congenital), it may also emerge afterwards depending on the surgeries in nipple and around and the infections occurred in breast. Consequently, fibrous bands will pull the nipple back and the invaginated nipple will form.
The treatment of nipple submergence is correcting the inverted nipples by an operation taking 30-45 minutes may be performed under local anesthesia. By making an incision from inside the areola in the operation, the bands pulling the nipple are made free; and by bringing flaps of breast tissue in the lower part of nipple, a supportive tissue is formed beneath the nipple. Recovery occurs in about 1 week. Because the areola texture heals very well, it does not leave an apparent scar.
However, this operation should not be performed in the same time with other operations of breasts (reduction, lifting, augmentation).
